New adventure playground opens at Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta
One of the biggest adventure playgrounds and nature play spaces in South Australia opened last month in Glenthorne National Park.
Covering over 7,000 square metres, the playground features three slides, a seesaw, spinner, fossil dig area, Kaurna carvings and sculptures. There’s also rope and log climbing elements, a pendulum swing, cubby building, and a 25m long flying fox, just to name a few!
Accessibility was a major priority for the design and the space includes a wide range of accessible equipment to ensure everyone can enjoy the space and have fun. This includes an accessible seesaw, swing set and roundabout/spinner.
The park, playground and visitor facilities are now open to the public 7 days a week. An influx of visitors is expected over the coming months, especially on weekends and during school holidays.
You can find Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta adventure playground and visitor hub on 2 Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill, about 17km south of the Adelaide CBD.

Surrounding the space is a purpose-built visitor hub that features shelters, BBQs, toilets, picnic areas, carparks and heritage buildings. Most of the park’s trails begin on shared use and accessible walkways from the hub and is the best spot to start your Glenthorne adventure.
Many of the elements around the playground and national park feature Kaurna culture designs which were created in partnership with Kaurna elders. It enables a wide range of visitors to interact and learn about the importance of the area to the Kaurna community from touching and playing with elements in the playground to language stories along one of the trails.
