Beaches provide the perfect location for a range of activities beyond swimming, fishing, cricket and building sandcastles.

Increasingly, South Australians are embracing the opportunity to get involved in charitable causes while soaking up the sand and sun.

Two standout events are the Marilyn Swim at Brighton Beach and Pink and Blue Swim at West Beach. These popular events unite communities to raise much-needed funds for life-saving cancer research.

The Marilyn Jetty Swim
The Marilyn Jetty Swim is a joyous annual event, encouraging participants to swim (or paddle) around Brighton Jetty dressed as 1950s Hollywood icon, Marilyn Monroe.

This year, the swim attracted a record number of supporters – wearing their outrageous costumes with great hilarity – and united to raise money for cancer research.

Over the last 12 years, the Swim has raised $1.5 million for Cancer Council SA.

The Marilyn Jetty Swim gives joy to so many, providing an opportunity to make a difference while enjoying the delights of Brighton beach.

Adelaide’s West Beach was a sea of neon pink and blue this weekend for the Pink and Blue charity event.

The Pink and Blue Swim

At West Beach, South Australians come out in droves to support the Pink and Blue event. Participants get to make the most of West Beach by either swimming, walking or running, while raising funds for cancer.

During the event, West Beach becomes a sea of neon pink and blue, with participants wearing caps and t-shirts to raise awareness of both breast and prostate cancer.

The Pink and Blue event unites local community to support lifesaving charities, while making the most of all that West Beach has to offer.

These two beach-based charity events highlight the great sense of community in South Australia. Whether it’s to support a loved one or simply wanting to make a difference, these events help raise awareness and funds for vital causes.

While South Aussies have been embracing our stunning beaches this summer, it’s heartening to know that so many are taking advantage of our precious coastlines to support and help others.
