A range of events during September will offer something for all visitors to Onkaparinga River National Park and Onkaparinga River Recreation Park.

Senior ranger Sean Benz said there were guided bushwalks, including a walk hosted by the Friends of Heysen Trail, as well as a social run offered by Trail Running SA.

“You can bring along a picnic lunch or attend the Friends of Onkaparinga Park fundraising barbeque. Then join the park rangers and local volunteers to explore the stunning new trails and spectacular Punchbowl lookout or attend the Willunga Basin Trail group hike,” he said.

“We are also offering kayaking sessions along the Onkaparinga River from our new kayak launch and family-friendly adventure and abseiling sessions at the Onkaparinga Gorge with qualified climbing instructors.”

The recent improvements include a lookout above the Punchbowl waterhole, a new campground, the kayak launch, toilet facilities, car parks, improved signage and trails making the park more family-friendly, accessible and easier to navigate for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

People can also book to stay at the new Pink Gum campground near the river. There are 11 campsites catering for tents, caravans and motorhomes.
