River Murray water allocations rise to 68 per cent
There’s positive news for South Australian River Murray irrigators today with minimum water allocations continuing an upward trend – this time to 68 per cent.
An assessment of the likelihood of increased irrigation allocations currently indicates water allocations will continue to rise in the 2019-20 water year.
DEW River Murray Water Delivery Manager Jarrod Eaton said the volume of water in Murray-Darling Basin Authority controlled storages has risen to 43 per cent capacity.
“Thanks to decent rainfall in the catchment area, it’s likely we’ll see these numbers continue to increase over the coming months,” Mr Eaton said.
“Based on historical climate variability across the last 30 years, water availability projections indicate that water allocations are likely to reach 100 per cent in 2019-20 under all inflow scenarios.
“The increased allocation is based on the latest water availability advice from the Murray-Darling Basin Authority.”
The Department for Environment and Water (DEW) is continuing to update its water allocations fortnightly while allocations remain below 100 per cent. The next update will be provided on 2 September 2019.
