Connect with nature in Adelaide’s south

Whether you are seeking spectacular coastal scenery or keen to check out one of the biggest nature play spaces in South Australia, these parks are sure to have something for you.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is celebrating the incredible areas with engaging activities as the February Park of the Month.

Ranger Jae Ellis has worked in the area for 9 years and said the Park of the Month experiences would provide great opportunities for attendees to discover the beautiful parks.

“A lot has been happening in Glenthorne National Park in the past year,” Ms Ellis said.

“The new adventure playground and picnic facilities have opened to the public along with brilliant new walking trails to explore.

“This park is an amazing place for the entire family.”

For people looking to enjoy some warm summer days, Ms Ellis said Hallett Cove Conservation Park was the perfect place to visit.

“This park is amazing because you can laze on the beach for the day, take a stroll along the Coastal Park Path for gorgeous views of the coast and Gulf St Vincent, or do a bit of both,” she said.

“You can even check out globally significant geological features that tell the story of when glaciers travelled over South Australia some 280 million years ago.”

Hallett Cove Conservation Park is only about 10 minutes from Glenthorne, so you can explore both great parks in a single outing.

NPWS has put together a program of activities to help you make the most of February in the parks.

Park of the Month activities include:

• Culture and nature walk with Uncle Tamaru and Nature Play SA in Glenthorne National Park.
• Guided snorkelling tours of Hallett Cove beach.
• Accessible snorkelling tours of Hallett Cove beach
• Geological and botanical walking tours of Hallett Cove Conservation Park.
• ‘Art in the Park’ workshops with local artist Charlene Wills.
• A guided accessibility walk in Glenthorne National Park.
• Guided bird watching tours in Glenthorne National Park.
• Join the Friends of Upper Field River for the group’s monthly working bees.
