Spring into central Lofty parks this September

As spring breathes new life into South Australia, it is the perfect time to explore the stunning national parks of the central Mount Lofty Ranges.

Spring into central Lofty parks this September

This season offers an extraordinary opportunity to connect with nature, so National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is celebrating Belair National Park, Scott Creek Conservation Park and Mark Oliphant Conservation Park as its September Park of the Month.

The parks are all located about 40 minutes from the Adelaide CBD and are renowned for their natural beauty and the variety of outdoor activities on offer, including bushwalking, birdwatching and picnicking.

NPWS Ranger Flynn Balshaw looks after these areas and said September was a special time to explore the parks.

“The array of colours and scents in the parks at this time of year is incredible,” he said.

“We are so fortunate to have such beautiful spaces where people can enjoy and connect with nature so close to the city.

“There are numerous parks in the Adelaide Hills, but we have chosen to highlight these ones to showcase their unique habitats and the range of activities available.

“While these parks have their differences, they all support a range of threatened species and high conservation areas ranging from woodlands, heathlands to creeks.”

This month, NPWS will run an exciting program of activities and events, including:

  • Introduction to Bushwalking Skills and Guided Hike in Scott Creek Conservation Park with Walking SA
  • Guided Nature Walk with the Friends of Belair National Park
  • Introductory Art Workshops with artist Charlene Wills in Belair National Park
  • Introduction to Birdwatching Skills in Belair National Park and Scott Creek Conservation Park
  • Guided Historical Tours and Afternoon Tea at Old Government House in Belair National Park
  • Wildflower Wander: Family Nature and Culture Walk with Nature Play SA and Kauwanu (Uncle) Tamaru
  • Bushcare and Planting Day with the Friends of Mark Oliphant Conservation Park
