With striking landscapes, pristine beaches, tranquil rivers and native bushland, Kangaroo Island (KI) truly is one of Australia’s best bucket list destinations.

Celebrate the beauty and resilience of Kangaroo Island parks this February
Cape Willoughby, Kangaroo Island.

That’s why this February, we’re celebrating the parks of KI as the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Park of the Month.

Just a 45-minute ferry ride from the mainland across the life-filled waters of Encounter Marine Park, Kangaroo Island has everything to offer.

Aside from the striking natural beauty of the landscape, it’s a birdwatcher’s paradise and a haven for native wildlife with an extraordinary list of creatures to encounter.

A series of special open-access and free events held throughout February will highlight this natural beauty and showcase how the resilient landscape has recovered since the 2019-20 bushfires.

You’ll be able to explore areas you have never seen before, and get immersed in the natural heritage of the island with events including:

  • Admirals Arch Roaming Tour Guide
  • Beginner’s Nature Photography
  • Beach Ramble, Sandcastles, and Nature’s Delights!
  • Ranger-guided walk: Estuary to Coast
  • Yoga on the Beach

District Ranger with NWPS Alison Buck encouraged people attending the events to check out the upgraded facilities across KI which are providing a whole new experience for visitors to the island.

“The recent completion of several multi-million-dollar projects to upgrade park facilities mark a major milestone in the island’s recovery from the devastating 2019-20 bushfires,” Ms Buck said.

“The new accessible, state-of-the-art facilities are a testament to the resilience of the island’s parks and communities, and the hard on-ground work of the rangers I work with.”

So come and experience for yourself the beauty of this little South Australian pocket of nature. Kangaroo Island is ready to go - are you?
