Hop into nature this Easter
Visitors are encouraged to book their Easter camping holiday as sites across South Australia’s national parks and reserves fill up.
While campsites in ever-popular sites including Deep Creek, Dhilba Guuranda-Innes and Ikara Flinders Ranges national parks are almost booked out, there are still spots available in other parks across the state including:
- Flinders Chase National Park
- Coorong National Park
- Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park
- Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park
- Acraman Creek Conservation Park
- Chadinga Conservation Park
Alligator Gorge in Mount Remarkable National Park is also set to re-open to visitors on April 17 ahead of the Easter long weekend.
Twenty-seven per cent – 4400 hectares – of the park was burnt during the Wilmington bushfire in February this year.
NPWS Tourism and Commercial Services Director Mel Carson said that whether you were looking for adventure, off-grid relaxation or a beach escape, there was a national park for you.
“Camping in, or visiting, one of our national parks is a great cost-effective way to enjoy nature this Easter,” Ms Carson said.
“Last Easter we had 6418 campsite bookings across our network of national parks and reserves, with sites across 27 parks completely booked out.
“Some of the most popular parks were Ikara Flinders Ranges, Canunda, Deep Creek and Coorong national parks, Little Dip Conservation Park, Memory Cove Wilderness Protection Area, and Loch Luna and Moorook Game Reserve.
“Make sure to go online soon and check availability so you don’t miss out on a fantastic holiday.”
Visitors are reminded to play their part in protecting the environment and local wildlife when staying in national parks by:
- Adhering to campfire rules and restrictions.
- Taking litter home as bins are not available.
- Sticking to speed limits and established roads or tracks to protect other visitors and wildlife.
For those seeking activities closer to Adelaide, sites including Cleland Wildlife Park and Adelaide Gaol will remain open all Easter long weekend. Cleland Wildlife Park’s new state-of-the-art koala loft, which opened on April 11, enhances the park’s strong reputation for best practice in conservation and animal welfare.
There are a range of koala experiences available at the new facility, including the opportunity to meet a koala face to face while it is sitting on a perch being able to get right up close.
Adelaide Gaol offers Escape Cell experiences for kids and adults, providing an opportunity to use problem-solving skills and discover the history of the Gaol.
