Prescribed burn in Ngarkat Conservation Park
Date posted: 17 Apr. 2020
A prescribed burn is planned in Ngarkat Conservation Park on Friday 17 April weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 12.00pm on Friday 17 April2020 and should be complete by 6:00pm that day.
- The burn will impact an estimated 430 hectares of land in an area 38 kilometres north east of Tintinara, within South West Ngarkat Conservation Park between the Mt Rescue and Emu Springs tracks on either side of Jimmy’s Well track
- The landscape protection burn aims to provide protection from fire for important mallee habitat while reducing the likelihood of large scale bush fires.
The burn will be carried out by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). A crew will remain on site until it is safe to leave.
The objective of this burn is to reduce fuels in the area to prevent the spread of bushfire. This operation is linked to a previous prescribed burn in the area to the east during autumn 2019.
It is part of a statewide program of prescribed burning planned to protect communities and assets at risk.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
