Prescribed burn in Big Heath Conservation Park
Date posted: 29 May 2020
A prescribed burn is planned over two days in Big Heath Conservation Park commencing on Friday 29 May and being completed on Saturday 30 May, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burns will start at 10.00am and should be complete by 8:00pm on both days.
- The burn will impact an estimated 281.4 hectares of land in the northwest portion of the park approximately 40 kilometres southwest of Naracoorte.
- The landscape protection burn aims to minimise the chance of the whole reserve burning in one event.
The burn will be carried out by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). A crew will remain on site until it is safe to leave.
It is part of a statewide program of prescribed burning planned to protect communities and assets at risk.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
