Prescribed burn at Mylor
Date posted: 06 Nov. 2020
A prescribed burn is planned on private land at Mylor on Friday 6 November, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 10 am and is likely to be completed by 6 pm.
- The area to be burnt is 4.6 hectares on private land at the eastern end of Stock Road, Mylor, about 700m west of the township of Mylor.
- Some smoke and fire activity may be observed in the days following the burn but the area will be patrolled until it is safe.
- Stock Road will be closed for three or four hours while ignition is undertaken along the northern edge of the burn. Traffic will be diverted via Leslie Creek Road.
The burn will be conducted as part of the Burning on Private Lands project and aims to reduce the risk of a bushfire affecting dwellings in the vicinity of Stock and Leslie Creek roads, Mylor. It will link with other planned burns in this high bushfire-risk area, as identified in the area’s bushfire management plan.
National Parks and Wildlife Service SA’s statewide program of prescribed burns helps limit the spread and intensity of bushfires, protects communities and enhances biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
