Prescribed burn at Seal Bay Conservation Park
Date posted: 09 Sep. 2021
A prescribed burn is planned for Range Track, Seal Bay Conservation Park, Seal Bay, Kangaroo Island on Thursday 9 September 2021, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 10:30 am and should be complete by 5:00 pm.
- It will affect about 23.2 hectares within the park.
- The objective of the burn is to reduce fuels directly adjacent Range Track fire access track in order to improve safety for firefighters and aid suppression activities in bushfire response.
- Some smoke may be present in the area for several days following the burn but it will be actively patrolled by NPWS fire crews until declared safe.
The burn will be carried out by NPWS.
NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice if conditions change.
