Prescribed burn at Barwell Conservation Park
Date posted: 03 Sep. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Barwell Conservation Park, on the Eyre Peninsula, on Wednesday 4 September, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 11:00am on Wednesday 4 September and is likely to be completed by 9:00pm that evening.
- The area to be burnt is 10 hectares on the eastern side of the conservation park, located approximately 17km northwest of Lock.
- This burn is part of a multistage operation to provide landscape protection and reduce the likelihood of the whole park burning in a single bushfire event.
- No roads or trails will be closed.
- Smoke may be visible to the west of Lock.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.
Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
