Prescribed burn at Barwell Conservation Park
Date posted: 25 Sep. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Barwell Conservation Park, on the Eyre Peninsula on Thursday, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 11.30am Thursday September 26 2024 and is likely to be completed by 8pm the same day.
- The area to be burnt is 150ha on the eastern side of the park, about 17km from Lock.
- This burn is part of a multi-stage operation to provide landscape protection and reduce the likelihood of the whole park burning in a single bushfire event.
- No roads or trails will be closed throughout the burn.
- Smoke may be visible from areas around the park.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
