Prescribed burn at Belair National Park
Date posted: 12 Nov. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Belair National Park, in the Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges, on Wednesday 13 November, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 12.00pm on Wednesday 13 November and is likely to be completed by 6:00pm that evening.
- The area to be burnt is 5.3 hectares on the eastern side of the park behind Upper Sturt Primary School.
- The burn aims to reduce the risks of bushfire impacting the Adelaide to Melbourne freight and passenger railway line, the primary school and private properties in the Upper Sturt community. It will also protect thepark from any potential ignition sources from the railway.
- Internal roads within the park may have traffic restrictions in place.
- Upper Sturt Road and the railway line may be impacted by smoke.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
