Prescribed burn at Carey Gully
Date posted: 09 May 2024
A prescribed burn is planned on private land at Carey Gully, in the Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges, on Friday 10 May, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 11.00am on Friday 10 May and is likely to be completed by 4:00pm that afternoon.
- The area to be burnt is 0.8 hectares on private land along Nicols Road at Carey Gully.
- The burn is a retreatment of a block burnt in 2021 to assist the land owners in the management of weeds. It will also provide a fuel reduced area to protect the surrounding assets.
- No trails or roads will be closed.
- Smoke may be visible and drift across Nicols Road. However, this will be short in duration and only minor due to the size of the burn.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
