Prescribed burn at Carey Gully
Date posted: 15 May 2024
A prescribed burn is planned on private land at Carey Gully, in the Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges, on Thursday 16 May, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 12.45pm on Thursday 16 May and is likely to be completed by 5:00pm that evening.
- The area to be burnt is 5.5 hectares of private land between Ranns Road South and Boundary Drive in Carey Gully.
- The burn is part of a long-term strategic fuel reduction plan, aimed at reducing the risks of bushfire to the communities of Basket Range and Carey Gully.
- There will not be any road closures during this burn.
- Light smoke may drift across Boundary Drive, Carey Gully for a short time, however it is expected that this will clear quickly posing no issues to the community.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
