Prescribed burn at Cherry Gardens
Date posted: 02 Oct. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Cherry Gardens in the Mount Lofty Ranges on Thursday, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 11am Thursday October 3 2024 and is likely to be completed by 5pm the same day.
- The area to be burnt is 9ha of native vegetation directly north of the ElectraNet substation at Cherry Gardens.
- The substation is identified as a high-risk asset which, if impacted by a bushfire, could have major impacts on the state’s power supply.
- This burn is part of a program of burns to be undertaken in the area to reduce the risk of bushfires affecting the substation.
- No roads or trails will be closed, but there will be vehicles entering and exiting onto Frith Road. Prescribed burn signage will be in place on the road notifying traffic of the operation.
- Smoke may be visible from Formby Road, Frith Road and Lafferty Road.
National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
