Prescribed burn at Crafers West

Date posted: 08 May 2024

A prescribed burn is planned at Crafers West, in the Mount Lofty Ranges, on Thursday 9 May 2024, weather conditions permitting.

  • The prescribed burn will start at 11am and is likely to be completed by 5pm the same day.
  • The area to be burnt is 3.5 hectares on private land west of Charlick Road and Manna Gum Lane.
  • This is part of a series of prescribed burns aiming to reduce the risk of bushfire impacting on the community of Crafers West.
  • On the day of the burn there will be a single lane closure along Charlick Road with speed restrictions in place.
  • Charlick Road and Manna Gum Lane may be affected by smoke.
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
