Prescribed burn at Gladstone
Date posted: 04 Nov. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned on private land at Gladstone, in the state’s Mid North, on Tuesday 5 November, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 10.20am on Tuesday 5 November and is likely to be completed by 6:00pm that evening.
- The area to be burnt is 2.6 hectares along the Gladstone Rail Corridor adjacent to Port Street Gladstone.
- It is a landscape protection burn to reduce the fuel risk and fire risk to the township of Gladstone.
- Speed restrictions will be in place in Port Street.
- Horrocks Highway, Port Street and Bondowie Street may be impacted by smoke.
- Gladstone residents are reminded to close all doors and windows until the smoke hazard has reduced.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
