Prescribed burn at Heathfield
Date posted: 23 May 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Heathfield in the Mount Lofty Ranges, on Friday 24 May 2024, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 10.45am and is likely to be completed by 3pm the same day.
- The area to be burnt is 0.9 hectares on private land east of Longwood Road.
- This is part of a series of burns within this area with the aim of creating a strategic fuel-reduced zone to reduce the risk of bushfire spreading through the Heathfield and Longwood area and impacting on surrounding communities.
- No roads or trails will be closed.
- Smoke may be visible from Longwood Road.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
