Date posted: 26 Apr. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Karte Conservation Park, in the Murraylands, on Sunday 28 April 2024, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 10.30am on Sunday and is likely to be completed by 6pm that evening.
- The area to be burnt is 190 hectares within the southern section of the park, which is north of the Parilla township.
- It is a landscape protection burn to reduce the bushfire risk to surrounding properties and the conservation park.
- Smoke may be visible from Claypan East Road, Karte West Road, Karte Road & Settlers Road.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
