Prescribed burn at Kenneth Stirling Conservation Park
Date posted: 10 Oct. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Kenneth Stirling Conservation Park in the Mount Lofty Ranges on Friday, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 10am Friday October 10 and is likely to be completed by 5.30pm the same day.
- The area to be burnt is 11.5ha in the Filsell Hill Block near Balhannah.
- This burn will provide a fuel reduced area within the landscape to reduce the spread of fire in the event of a bushfire impacting the park. It will also link up with other burns conducted in the area, providing a bushfire suppression advantage for fire fighters.
- No roads or trails will be closed throughout the burn.
- Nearby roads, including Deviation Road, Collins Hill Road, Swamp Road and Greenhill Road, may be affected by smoke.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
