Prescribed burn at Kenneth Stirling Conservation Park

Date posted: 25 Oct. 2024

A prescribed burn is planned at Kenneth Stirling Conservation Park, in the Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges, on Sunday 27 October, weather conditions permitting.

  • The burn will start at 10.30am on Sunday 27 October and is likely to be completed by 6:00pm that evening.
  • The area to be burnt is 8.6 hectares in the northern area of park adjacent Bush Pea Track, about 2km southeast of the township of Carey Gully.
  • This is a landscape protection burn to reduce the likelihood of the whole park burning in a single bushfire event.
  • Walking trails within the park will be monitored for park visitors for the duration of the operation. No closures will be in place.
  • Gum Flat Road at Carey Gully may be impacted by smoke.
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
