Prescribed burn at Marion Bay

A prescribed burn is planned for the township of Marion Bay on southern Yorke Peninsula between Willyama Drive and Jetty Road, south of the General Store, on Friday 8 April 2022, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will commence at 10:30 am and is expected to be complete by 10 pm.
- It will affect about 13 hectares.
- The objective of the burn is to create a low fuel area next to Marion Bay to reduce the impact of a bushfire on the town.
- Yorke Highway will be closed between Jetty Street and Willyama Road with detours in place via Jetty Road, Slow Street and Willyama Drive through the Marion Bay Township.
- Some smoke and fire activity may be observed on the day and following the burn and it will be patrolled until it is safe.
This is Crown Land managed by DEW. It is part of a joint approach with the Yorke Peninsula Council and the Country Fire Service Bushfire Management Committee to reduce the bushfire risk in the area. A crew will remain on site until it is safe to leave.
NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice if conditions change.
