Prescribed burn at Mark Oliphant Conservation Park
Date posted: 30 Oct. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Mount Oliphant Conservation Park, in the Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges, on Thursday 31 October, weather conditions
permitting.
- The burn will start at 11.00am on Thursday 31 October and is likely to be completed by 4:30pm that afternoon.
- The area to be burnt is 8.8 hectares within the park, near Heathfield.
- The burn aims to provide a low fuel area to reduce the risk of bushfire impacting on neighbouring properties and strengthen strategic control lines for fires burning into or out of the park.
- Scott Creek Road will be reduced down to one lane and managed by contractors. Thornbill Track open but access limited to the public during the burn.
- Scott Creek Road and Thornbill Track will be impacted by smoke.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land. Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
