Prescribed burn at Mary Seymour Conservation Park
Date posted: 22 Oct. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Mary Seymour Conservation Park in the Limestone Coast on Wednesday, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 10.45am Wednesday October 23 2024 and is likely to be completed by 7pm.
- The area to be burnt is 25ha on the eastern side of the park, which is near Bool Lagoon, approximately 25km south-west of Naracoorte.
- This is a landscape protection burn to reduce the likelihood of the whole park burning in a single bushfire event
- Bool Lagoon West Road is likely to be impacted by smoke, and traffic may be stopped for short periods.
- All walking trails in the area will be closed throughout the burn.
- Some smoke and fire activity may be visible from the site in the days after the burn, but National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
