Prescribed burn at Nangkita
Date posted: 14 Dec. 2022
A prescribed burn is planned on private land at Nangkita in the Fleurieu Peninsula on Wednesday, 14 December, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 11:00am and is likely to be completed by 5:00pm the same day.
- The area to be burnt is 4.3 hectares of private land off Swampy Crescent Road, Nangkita, six kilometres east of Mount Compass.
- This is an ecological burn which aims to assist in the recruitment of threatened plants in the Fleurieu swamp community.
- Some smoke may remain visible in the area for several days but the burn site will be patrolled by NPWS fire crews over this period.
NPWS conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhances biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land. Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice if conditions change.
