Prescribed burn at Naracoorte North Nature Park
Date posted: 05 Apr. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Naracoorte North Nature Park on the Limestone Coast on Sunday 7 April 2024, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 11.30am and is likely to be completed by 7.30pm Sunday 7 April.
- The area to be burnt is 22 hectares in part of the Naracoorte North Nature Park on Naracoorte Lucindale Council land.
- This burn was originally scheduled to occur on 25 March, but was rescheduled due to weather conditions.
- The Nature Park is located on the north side of the Naracoorte township, and is directly adjacent to the Naracoorte Primary School, Naracoorte and District Sports Centre and Naracoorte Swimming Lake.
- The burn will reduce the risk of bushfire affecting the Naracoorte and District Sports Centre and Naracoorte Primary School.
- Walking paths will be closed in this area until signage is taken down.
- Naracoorte-Padthaway Road, also known as Riddoch Highway, Macmillan Road and the Naracoorte Golf Club may be impacted by smoke.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
