Prescribed burn at Ngarkat Conservation Park
Date posted: 09 Oct. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Ngarkat Conservation Park in the Murraylands on Thursday, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 12.30pm and is likely to be completed by 6pm the same day.
- The area to be burnt is 300ha within the park, near the corner of Ngarkat Highway and Piggery Track.
- This is a landscape protection burn to the south of Piggery Track that will assist in containing fire to one area in the event of a bushfire.
- No roads or trails will be closed throughout the burn.
- Smoke will be visible from Ngarkat Highway and may impact the surround area.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
