Prescribed burn at Para Wirra Conservation Park
Date posted: 10 Oct. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Para Wirra Conservation Park in the Mount Lofty Ranges on Friday, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 2pm Friday October 11 2024 and is likely to be completed by 9pm the same day.
- The area to be burnt is 8ha adjacent the park’s main entrance gate along Humbug Scrub Road.
- This burn is planned to reduce the likelihood of a fire spreading through the park by creating a low fuel area adjacent Humbug Scrub Road.
- Humbug Scrub Road will be reduced to one lane and the speed limit will be dropped to 25km/h during the burn.
- Smoke may affect Humbug Scrub Road.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
