Date posted: 01 Nov. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Para Wirra Conservation Park, in the Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges, on Monday 4 November, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 10:30am on Monday 4 November and is likely to be completed by 8:00pm that evening.
- The area to be burnt is 59.1 hectares in the northern area of the park 5 kilometres west of Williamstown.
- It is a landscape protection burn to reduce the likelihood of the whole park burning in a single bushfire event.
- Traffic restrictions will be in place on Para Wirra Road with one lane closed for the duration of the burn. Short term road closures may be put in place on Para Wirra Road throughout the burn if smoke reduces visibility to unsafe levels.
- Para Wirra Road will be impacted by smoke. Other roads to the north of the burn including Green Gully Road, Woodlands Road, Allendale
- Road and Goldfields Road may have some impact from smoke
- throughout the burn.
- Some walking trails within the park will be closed for the duration of the burn including Quarry Track, Bowdens Track and Lady Pearce Circuit Trail.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
