Prescribed burn at Porky Flat

A prescribed burn is planned on private land at Porky Flat on Kangaroo Island, on Tuesday 12 November, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 12.00pm on Tuesday 12 November and is likely to be completed by 8:00pm that evening.
- The area to be burnt is 131.5 hectares on private land near Simpson Conservation Park 15km southeast of Penneshaw.
- It is a landscape protection burn is to reduce the bushfire risk to private properties to the north as well as Simpson Conservation Park burning in a single bushfire event.
- No roads will be closed.
- Jeffs Road, Black Point Road and Wilson River Road may be impacted by smoke.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity.
Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
