Prescribed burn at Seal Bay Conservation Park
Date posted: 13 May 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Seal Bay Conservation Park, on Kangaroo Island, on Tuesday 14 May 2024, weather conditions permitting.
- The prescribed burn will start at 10.30am and is likely to be completed by 6pm the same day.
- The area to be burnt is 46.4 hectares at Hammatt Track in the park, approximately 19km south of the Parndana township.
- The objective of this burn is to create a low fuel area to limit the likelihood of bushfire spreading from or into the park.
- Hammatt Track will be closed throughout the burn.
- South Coast Road may be impacted by smoke.
- Smoke will be visible in the area for the following days.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
