Prescribed burn at Simpson Conservation Park
Date posted: 20 Sep. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned at Simpson Conservation Park on Kangaroo Island on Monday 23 September, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 11.00am on Monday 23 September and is likely to be completed by 4:00pm that afternoon.
- The area to be burnt is 15.4 hectares within the park adjacent the southern end of Jeffs Road, 15km southeast of Penneshaw.
- It is a landscape protection burn to reduce the fuel hazard in order to interrupt the spread and impact of bushfire through the area.
- No roads will be closed during the burn.
- Jeffs Road and Wilson River Road may be impacted by smoke.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
