Prescribed burn at Stone Chimney Creek

Date posted: 14 Apr. 2025

A prescribed burn is planned at Stone Chimney Creek, in the Red Banks Conservation Park on Tuesday 15 April 2025, weather conditions permitting.

  • The burn will start at 11.45 am on Tuesday and is likely to be completed by 7pm that evening.
  • The area to be burnt is 2 hectares within the park approximately 14km east of Burra in the state’s mid north.
  • It is a landscape protection burn to assist with weed control in a densely weed infested area of creek line.
  • Smoke might be visible for a few days following the burn.
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
