Prescribed burn at Sturt Gorge Recreation Park

Date posted: 07 Nov. 2024

A prescribed burn is planned at Sturt Gorge Recreation Park, in the Adelaide Mount Lofty Ranges, on Sunday 10 November, weather conditions permitting.

  • The burn will start at 12:15pm on Sunday 10 November and is likely to be completed by 5:30pm that evening.
  • The area to be burnt is 6.1 hectares within the park, near Flagstaff Hill.
  • It is a landscape protection burn to reduce fuel load and manage the risk of bushfires impacting the community of Flagstaff Hill.
  • Wattle Walking trail will be closed.
  • Broadmeadow Drive, Catharina Street, Lilford Way, Essington Street, Wattle and Witowirra Tracks may be impacted by smoke.
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.

NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
