Prescribed burn at Upper Sturt

A prescribed burn is planned at Upper Sturt, in the Mount Lofty Ranges, on Thursday 16 May 2024, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 11.45am and is likely to be completed by 5pm the same day.
- The area to be burnt 1.4 hectares on private land on the southern side of Upper Sturt Road.
- This is part of a series of burns aiming to reduce the risk of bushfire impacting the community of Upper Sturt and the dwellings on Upper Sturt Road.
- No roads or trails will be closed.
- Upper Sturt Road may be affected by smoke.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
