Prescribed burn at Watervale
Date posted: 20 Nov. 2024
A prescribed burn is planned on a portion of government-owned and private land at Watervale, in the state’s Mid North, on Thursday 21 November, weather conditions permitting.
- The burn will start at 12.45pm on Thursday 21 November and is likely to be completed by 5:00pm that evening.
- The area to be burnt is 1 hectare in the northwest corner of Watervale where the Riesling Trail meets Sollys Hill Road.
- It is a landscape protection burn to reduce the fuel load adjacent to the Riesling Trail to limit the spread of a bushfire into Watervale.
- The Riesling Trail will be diverted around the area via Mt Horrocks Road and Sollys Hill Road during the burn.
- Sollys Hill Road may be impacted by smoke.
- National Parks and Wildlife Service crews will remain on site until safe.
NPWSSA conducts a statewide program of prescribed burns to reduce the spread and intensity of bushfires, protect communities and enhance biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
