Threatened animal species
There are currently over 90 South Australian animal species listed as nationally threatened under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. This includes a diversity of mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian and fish species.
At a state level, there are 324 animal species listed as threatened under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972, including:
- 100 mammal species
- 163 bird species
- 53 reptile species
- 8 amphibian species
The figures above include the 24 mammal and 8 bird species that are considered to have become extinct in South Australia since European settlement.
