South Australia’s Climate Change Opportunity

Tackling climate change can be a win-win for our economy and environment, and the South Australian Government is working to accelerate action on climate change, create innovative new jobs, and grow our economy.

In March 2023, the Premier released the South Australian Economic Statement. The statement outlines a vision for the state’s economic future that is smart, sustainable and inclusive.

A key mission in the Statement is to Capitalise on the global green transition. The ambition is to utilise South Australia’s sustainability credentials and natural endowment to provide green energy, products and services to the world, contributing to both our smart and sustainable economy ambitions.

South Australia’s early and continued investment in renewable energy generation—with over $20 billion in the pipeline—is attractive to businesses of all sizes, particularly if we can translate that abundance into cheaper energy and carbon-certified goods. The state’s early adoption of circular economy principles can also provide a path to prosperity through greater efficiency and sustainability.
