Community monitoring information
Are you involved in environmental monitoring?
Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth Community Monitoring Information Tool (COMMIT) is a publicly accessible interactive map of the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth (CLLMM) region, which allows users to upload basic information regarding their monitoring activities.
Collecting this information will build a clearer picture of monitoring activities around the CLLMM region.
Groups and individuals involved in monitoring activities can enter information about the type, frequency and location of the monitoring they are undertaking. Monitoring activities are colour coded and can be entered as points or lines.
Capturing this information is enabling us to better share monitoring information, identify gaps and avoid duplication.
This initial release of COMMIT does not capture actual data, just the broad type, frequency and location of data collection.
As more information is added to the site, you will be able to see more data and get a better picture of monitoring underway across the region.
COMMIT and the collected information are managed by the department.
Entering information into COMMIT
If you are involved in environmental monitoring in the CLLMM region you can enter details about your activities. We are interested in hearing about monitoring activities relating to:
|
|
or any other type of environmental monitoring.
Viewing information entered into COMMIT
For information entered by other groups, you will only be able to see coloured dots on the map indicating that a type of monitoring (eg orange = birds) is occurring in that location. You cannot see who is doing the monitoring.
To view this information, click Custom Map Overlays in the left sidebar to view user entered data. To turn on the layer click in the box on the left - this will tick it. Click the '+' next to User Entered Data to display the colour coded key to monitoring activities

How information collected by COMMIT will be used
Our aim is to find out what type of monitoring is happening around the CLLMM region. We know that good work is being done by various individuals and groups, but it hasn't been mapped together before. Once we have a better picture of what's happening where, we can explore ways to better share monitoring information.
Names and contact details will not be made publicly available and will only be used to contact you in relation to your monitoring activities.
If you select 'yes' in response to 'Join the mailing list?' your name and email address will be added to our database to receive the monthly Community Update about state government projects in the CLLMM region.
