Recent data show signs that a healthy new generation of black bream, an iconic estuarine fish, is continuing to survive and grow in the Coorong thanks to the delivery of water for the environment.

The Department for Environment and Water (DEW) has advised irrigators that under a worst-case scenario, irrigation allocations for 2019-20 could start as low as 14 percent.

The Pike Floodplain is a high priority ecological and cultural area with varied aquatic habitats, fast and slow flowing anabranches and both permanent and temporary wetlands.

Construction of environmental structures will start this month to provide much needed water to Katarapko Floodplain in the Murray River National Park.
