The sound of the musical eastern banjo frog ringing out across the Pike floodplain is among the incredible sights and sounds ecologists are observing as floodwaters recede throughout the Murraylands, Riverland and Lower Lakes.

Scientists have launched a series of research projects to determine how River Murray environments are responding to the once-in-a-generation flood.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service is calling for volunteers to help clear rubbish in flood-affected Riverland national parks this Clean Up Australia Day.

River Murray communities are being urged to remain vigilant as the flood peak passes Renmark and Berri.

The River Murray flood peak is expected to reach Renmark in the next few days and Berri and potentially Loxton by this time next week.
