mywater Portal
Login to mywater
mywater is a portal that allows South Australian water users and water businesses to do their water related business with government online.
Developed with input from stakeholders across the water sector, mywater helps water users and water related businesses to manage their water, enabling:
- online management of water instruments and water account information
- smart online applications to buy and sell water
- smart online meter read lodgement
- reduced trading times with automation and faster processing
- an ability to authorise others to deal with water instruments on the holders’ behalf, online
- streamlined approval and permit applications, including water-affecting activity permits.
mywater is an exciting addition to South Australia’s water management system. It brings tangible benefits to local communities, landholders and irrigators, offering easier access to water market information, contemporary online applications, streamlined application processing and reduced trading times.
We are working with water users throughout 2025 to introduce mywater and support them to take full advantage of it. This work is taking time but is critical to ensuring the security of holders’ water rights and the accuracy of South Australia’s Water Register.
Members of the public, including holders of water instruments, approvals and permits can request a mywater login.

How to access mywater
If you hold a water instrument (licence, approval or permit) in South Australia, or you want to transact on behalf of a person or organisation that holds a water instrument, you can request a mywater login so that you can manage your water activities online.
You can also request a mywater login to apply for water related permits (e.g., water affecting activity permits or well construction permits) online in future.
Before requesting a mywater login, review the fact sheets appropriate to your situation:
- mywater for Well Construction Permits
- Information for people who own water licences
- Information for people who own water licences jointly with other people or organisations
- Information for people who manage water licences for other people or organisations
With a mywater login, you can deal with water instruments and water rights in the Water Register, which are collectively valued at over $8 billion. Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the Water Register is critical.
Anyone requesting a mywater login will go through an identity assurance process. This helps us ensure only holders and their authorised agents or representatives deal with the water instruments and rights in the Water Register via mywater.

The Centre comprises Water Licencing staff from around South Australia. Our team has been set up to help you to learn to use mywater. We can help with questions about:
- the Water Register
- mywater and how it can make a difference to your business
- how to request a mywater login
- how to set up your team or business to make the most of mywater.
If you are an existing instrument holder (or have done business with us previously), we will not be able to activate your mywater login until you have spoken to our mywater Contact Centre team. We will ask you questions to make sure you are the rightful owner, or authorised representative of the rightful owner, of the licences and permits to be linked to your mywater login. This helps to ensure the security of your instruments and also helps us set up your profile correctly from the start – so you can see all the licences, approvals and permits you hold (or manage) when you login from the first time.
If you are not an existing instrument holder, the mywater Contact Centre will review your request for a mywater login and, in most cases, activate your login within 48 hours. If we identify any issues when we undertake a due diligence review of your request and our records, the team will contact you directly to assist you to complete the set-up of your mywater user profile. Your login will then be activated.
Once your mywater login has been activated, you will be notified by email that your login is ready for use. Remember to keep track of the username and password you choose when you request your login, as you will need this to access mywater after we have activated your login.
