With the support of natural high flows currently in the River Murray, the Department for Environment and Water will commence environmental watering of the Chowilla, Pike and potentially Katarapko floodplains this month, through operation of environmental regulators.

For the second year straight South Australian River Murray water users will start the water year with 100 per cent of their allocation.

Following successful operations in 2021 which delivered significant ecological benefits to the region, planning is underway for the delivery of water for the environment to the Chowilla, Pike and Katarapko floodplains during winter and spring.

In further evidence of ecological improvements at Bookmark Creek in South Australia’s Riverland, ecologists have found juvenile golden perch and freshwater catfish in the area.

In great news for South Australian River Murray irrigators, water allocations are projected to open at 100 percent for the 2022-23 water year.
